Reserves League proposals

24th January 2008

North Wales Reserve League is at the discussion stage and nine WPL clubs have expressed an interest in the proposal: Porthmadog, Caernarfon, Bangor, Llangefni, Connah's Quay, Airbus Broughton, Welshpool, TNS and Newtown.

The initial intention is a league split into three divisions on geographical lines: Eastern, Central and Western.
The clubs who could form the Western Region are: Porthmadog FC, Bangor City, Caernarfon Town, Glan Conwy, Holyhead Hotspur, Llandudno, Llandudno Junction, Llanfairpwll, Llangefni Town, Llanrwst United, Pwllheli.

It appears that the new proposals have not met with the approval of the feeder leagues with the Clwyd League official website saying: "For the record the NWCFA, Gwynedd League, Clwyd League, Caernarfon Area, and Anglesey Ynys Môn Leagues have in principle objected to the formation of such league(s) in North Wales."

Any views on how this affects us and whether or not it is good for Welsh Football?

Transfer Window changes

24th January 2008

The FAW, faced with widespread criticism of their Transfer Window arrangements, has reacted by proposing a minor change. During the current season, leagues had differing windows with windows in feeder leagues, including the Cymru Alliance, remaining open after the closure of the WPL window. This had the potential effect of WPL fringe players transferring to the Cymru Alliance in search of more regular games. WPL clubs could not immediately replace these players. The new plan is aimed at creating uniformity and will also allow clubs that qualify for UEFA competitions to register players.
The dates proposed are from Friday 4 July to Friday 26 September and the whole of January 2009. This will apply to all directly affiliated leagues in Wales next season.

Not sure if this is what we really want as the English leagues are the ones who sign our players away and they are not affected. Maybe OK for full time clubs/leagues but not ours at present.

Caernarfon Game abandoned at half time

24th January 2008

Last night's game went ahead although the ref had doubts and it kicked off late. At half time the officials abandoned the game at 0-0, with the pitch getting dangerous and rain falling heavily.

On a difficult surface we just about shaded the first half with more possession and several good scoring chances, in particular their keeper as the last man brought down Chris Jones outside the box and only got a yellow card. In fairness they too had good chances notable falling to Addo whose pace was inhibited by the pitch and Jacko saved well from close range. Overall not a lot in it and 0-0 probably reflected this.

The re-arranged match is expected to be a mid week game in March.
