A great win 4-1 agiants Port Talbot

A welcome and well deserved win 4-1 (yes 4-1!) at home to Port Talbot. A slight change to a 4-4-2 formation but the previous week's discipline held and we ran out comfortable winners, but importantly the manner and style gives great hope for the remaining games.

We started strongly with 5 good chances in the first 15 minutes, with a clear cut 1 on 1 for Jason which given his usual clinical level would have been put away. Having said that he and Kev Lloyd took the game to them in the 1st half backed up by a strong running midfield. They did have their moments but Jacko was in fine form and the only time he was troubled their finishing was wayward.

2nd half we came out very strongly with a good close finish of a Darren Bach cross by Mitch, closely followed by Darren scoring direct from a corner with their keeper clutching fresh air. A change of formation to stifle the middle intially let them in for a close range goal, but in due course opened them up at the back with Darren completing a fine build from Robbo marauding forward, an assist from Sadler and a 3-1 lead. Jason got his just desserts with a clever far post curling shot that deceived their keeper to complete a confidence boosting 4-1 win and a great 3 points.

This was a top 6 side and whatever the claims for missing players we showed that we are match for any team outside the top 2 or 3. An excellent all round team performance with no one going missing and some good individual performances. Compliments to the management team too for getting the tactics, formations and changes spot on.

Keep it up boys and lets see what Welshpool holds on Friday.

Heads up even if we did lose 7-1

Heads up even if we did lose 7-1

Let's face it no one expected come away with anything, but I saw many positives which considering we didn't want to be on the end of a 7-1defeat is good.

Remember these are full time, well paid pros, most with english league club experience, playing on their own artificial pitch and they looked like it too. We didn't really get near them as they kept it down and wide, rarely taking us on and content to work the ball up to the final third and knock it into the box. As the game went that was it a bit like Man United v Newcastle and very little to report and add to it.

But our heads were up, we had good formation, kept our discipline and kept to the game plan, against 75% of the WPL if we had played like this and this well during the season so far, then we would not be at the bottom.

The boys have good spirit, work ethic and will continue to give their all and they should be applauded for the work they are putting in, they deserve some favourable results, but if they don't come it won't be for want of trying.
