0-2 to Holyhead
20th August 2008

Bad result from a poor game which must leave both teams wondering what will the season hold for them.
A dull game in driving rain with little football and few chances of which Holyhead took their two and we did not.
First half Holyhead started more brightly with their long balls out to their fast wide wingers casuing problems. The first chance fell to us and was sent wide, but Holyhead came back and controlled much of the half culminating in a failure by us to stop a cross and free back post header for them to go in 1 -0 up, despite a close effort over the bar by Kev Roberts.
2nd half we changed format and took the game back to them for most of the half creating a couple of chances which their keeper did well to save. As we pushed forward it left gaps for their forwards to exploit and a speculative long range effort eluded our keeper to wrap the game up for them at 2-0.
So bragging rights to our local rivals for now, but neither side looked in championship form on this showing.
A win at Llandyrnog
16th August 2008

First game and a win away 1-0 not pretty in a cross wind and as we know a difficult pitch to play football on. We needed to use the long ball to keep it off the ground which did not suit us with their big defenders but we did look like the only side who wanted to win, with a lot of time wasting from them and balls out of play for a long time.
It all came down to a late penalty for a foul on Dixon that Kev Lloyd despatched clinically. All in all a good battling display by all the lads to the very end, in a difficult first encounter against a side who will give little away at home.
You have to take your luck when it comes along and we walked with the 3 points, which considering our thin squad today was very welcome.
Good game for Reserves at Porthmadog
14th August 2008
My mistake this was actually a league game, so it is perhaps understandable why Port played their first team to put points on the board for their reserves. I suppose we could have done the same but it's not the spirit of the game is it? and I am sure our second string would have been mightily upset if we had done. Well done to our boys anyway and the comments still stand up.
The final pre season game for the reserves saw them play Porthmadog first team, so a 5-3 loss is not bad considering the different levels they play.
By all reports they gave a good acccount of themselves exploiting Port's defensive lapses, this is a good pointer for the season and we wish them every success.
