Welsh Cup win 3-1 v Llandudno

A very good 3-1 win in the Welsh Cup at home to Llandudno and well deserved too. On paper a difficult game against a very strong and experienced Llandudno squad, but in reality a comfortable win borne out of a great work ethic and team performance despite restrictions through player availability.

We started very strongly with a deep Danny Glyn cross being volleyed just wide by the inrushing Ywain Gwynedd, and the match slowing somewhat into a succession of breaks and counter attacks. Our pace picked up upfront with Ywain, Darren Thomas and Danny Glyn causeing them a lot of problems and it was no surprise when Ows charged down a ball, went 50/50 with the keeper and won possession to knock it in. We continued the pressure with Darren Bach going close two or three times and Danny also weighing in along with Kevin Roberts; but they defended resolutely and physically. Against the run of play they were awarded a penalty for a minor six and 2 threes incident between Dixon and ex player Caerwyn Roberts, which another ex player Craig Hogg duly put away just before half time, however our heads stayed up and we went back down the other end for Darren Bach to get his deserts with our second goal, 2-1 at half time.

2nd half was played in similar style although they inevitably came at us for the first 15 minutes, but our defence was in good form and controlled their experienced strikers with ease, with the keeper on hand for any balls coming through. As we turned up the pressure and they came out looking for an equaliser a deep Darren Thomas cross was dropped by the keeper for the industrious Kevin Roberts to crash home the third goal. A good all round team performance from everyone with unsolicited praise for Austin who was drafted in to the defence and had an outstanding game alongside Mitchell, Williams and Dixon.

Pictures says it all  team spirit and A job well done

2-1 loss in cup at Holyhead

11th September 2008

If anyone read the report of the first game against Holyhead then this was a repeat performance, same conditions, same pattern of play, same first goal, we equalised within 5 minutes from a 25 yard free kick through the wall that evaded the keeper. 2nd half we scored an own goal on 75 minutes to pass the initiative to our hosts.

'Nuff said and a more detailed report to follow from our managers.

General Observation

8th September 2008

John Deakin appears a bit hypocritical with his 'lack of ambition' statement on the WPL website. We were turned down for a grant to improve our setup because we were about to be relegated, which also ruled out any funding from the Cymru Alliance too. Also we wanted to continue with our quest for UEFA licencing but were told we could not have funding for this either as we were about to be relegated.

With the proposals at the end of next season for a 10 team premier league for teams with the UEFA/Domestic licence and ten team feeder leagues -CA North, CA Central and South (although South may retain 18 teams!), which will have to absorb the 8 WPL relegated teams; what will the criteria be for clubs in the feeder leagues, will it be Domestic licence? and if they want promotion to the Premier they will presumably need the UEFA licence - who will fund this?

We think Mr Deakin is a bit economical here and needs to make all clubs aware of the league's changes early enough for them to plan for their own futures.
