great away win at Bala 3-2
26th September 2008
The team continued where they left off against Llandudno with a hard earned but well deserved 3-2 away win at title favourites and league leaders Bala. A good pitch for football but a game marred by poor refereeing and bully boy tactics from our hosts.
We started well with Warren Gibbs slotting in at the back and Austin moving back into midfield joined by Boskin, with the pace of Ywain and Darren and the line led by Danny Glyn we looked strong going forward, but early exchanges fell Bala's way. As the half wore on we came more into it, playing some quick on the ground football which appeared to unsettle them and they resorted early to over the top and scything tackles that largely went unpunished - causing the ref great problems later in the game having lost control - he was more content to book a ball to hand on Mitchell and an odd hand ball decision against Ozzy whilst he was elbowed in the head. They also reverted to over the top balls going long and missing their middle out, very strange!
Against the run of play a simple Dixon back pass was blasted by the keeper and rebounded off an inrushing forward into the empty net 1-0 down at half time.
They kept to their tactics in the 2nd half which we defended comfortably with Gibbs having and exceptional debut and Chris Williams having a great game too. This style left it open for us to play our football and a good midfield interchange gave Austin a chance to play inside the defence to Darren who cooly slotted it under the keeper to equalise; Darren caused them all sorts of problems throughout the game with his pace and directness, battling consistently in the face of some often brutal, yet unpunished tackling, his response being in his football.
Again against the run of play the ref contrived to give them an innocuous penalty for a two way tustle involving Lee Dixon and we were 2-1 down. Bala at this stage were on the up but resorted to time wasting and their managment not putting balls into play, but we stuck to our game plan and on 85 minutes Austin rose at the back post to head a flighted corner home, with this equaliser we looked set for a draw, but our players were not content with this and took the game back to them aagain nd a neat multi-player passing move left Ywain to waltz past his marker and put us 3 -2 up, just before he hobbled off after yet another disgraceful and unpunished challenge.
Despite the ref playing nearly ten minutes of added time and despite the rash lunges and bullying by Bala - resulting in Ady Glo and their right back (who should have gone a lot sooner) getting red cards - we held out comfortably to take the points and open up the championship race.
Mr Caton was his usual gracious self in defeat, but on the night the better side won which means that football won over rough house play.
A great morale boosting team effort with all contributing and working for each other, alot of heart, passion and endeavour plus the willingness to match the physical side without abandoning our football roots in favour of the rough house, all in all a very good night and much to look forward to.
Welcome return for Boskin
24th September 2008

Good news that the versatile Richard (Boskin) Hughes has returned to the club from Porthmadog, vastly experienced player who can fit in anywhere on the pitch, he had limited opportunities with us last season due to a pre-season injury, before moving to Porthmadog last January. This is another piece in the jigsaw and will be seen by all as another positive step and everyone will welcome the popular player back.
