Half way through and we sit on top of the table with 14 games to play and a lot can happen as we well know, but better the points on the board and destiny in our own hands..

A nice accolade for Gus with his Manager of the Month award, which he was quick to point out is reflected also in the work put in by Viv Williams and  Mike Innnes, plus of course the players who cross the white line each week; but the final say is with him and everyone at the club offer their congratulations.

On the playing front we already await the debut of Mike Edwards and can confirm that the loan between us and Bangor for Mel McGuiness and Kevin Lloyd, has now been made permanent for both players, we are very pleased to keep Mel who has made such an impact since his arrival, but of course wish Kev well at Bangor having served us so well in the past.

Another bit of good news is that Darren Thomas has extended his contract for another season which the club and all supporters are delighted with.

It is also good news that Ywain 'Ows' Gwynedd is avaible again to play after his lay off.

The transfer window opens today so any movements will be reported as they happen.

Away win in crunch match at Holyhead

The big game for the island over the holiday period saw us take all 3 points to take us clear at the top of the table for the New Year, with Bala only managing a draw at Denbigh

A first half goal from Darren 'Bach' Thomas was enough to settle the game.

I was not at the game and so a more detailed report will follow in due course.

Well done to the all the lads, managers and coaches fior this excelllent result

Report from pitch side - The game was played on a poor surface and in a gale force easterly wind, so any football was at a premium; both teams had players missing and it always looked like one goal would decide this match.

We kicked into the strong wind in the first half with Whitfield being called into action to deal with a succession of corners one coming back of the bar and a long range shot from Newell turned round the post. With the wind behind them Holyhead played a lot of long balls which our defence coped with well and played out through the midfield and although we played controlled football, breakaways tended to be our way forward. Whilst we would have been happy at 0-0 at half time, the bonus came with some neat interplay from Kev Roberts to Mel McGuiness, a quick one two with Darren Thomas and Mel played Darren in to side step a challenge and score the all important goal. This move was repeated within 5 minutes with Darren hitting the outside of the post. It was not all one way though and a good long range effort from the excllent Kenleigh Owen nearly caught Whitfield off his line, but he touched it over to save well. The dangerous Holyhead set pieces caused little concern to our familiarly resolute defence; 1-0 to us at half time.

2nd half and it was out turn for the wind assistance but Holyhead came out as expected to take the game to us, but the defence plus Boskin and Higham in front of them handled them comfortably with Whitty rarely troubled this half. The wind tended to take the ball away from our front men, but Mel and Darren continued to threaten with the latter having a good shout for a hand ball penalty and a late close range shot driven over.

Our set piece corners as in previous games caused problems with Warren Gibbs unlucky to see his header pushed wide to prevent a goal against one of his old clubs.

The final score of 1-0 reflected a fair result on the day between two well matched sides in difficult conditions; a scrappy game for sure but none the less entertaining to the big local crowd.

We at the top but there is a long way to go and Holyhead will be in the mix come April.
