Fine win 2-0 away at Llanfairpwll
16th April 2009

We brought the curtain down on our season back in the Cymru Alliance at our near neighbours Llanfairpwll, an Island derby being fitting for the occasion.
With Kenny Jones, deputising in goal for the work committed Paul Whitfield, being the only change to our usual starting lineup, we played at pace on the hard and sometimes uneven pitch. Chances were few and far between for both sides with the hosts giving their expected effort to a mainly midfield tussle. Honours fairly even in the first half, but all credit to Kenny in getting down well to a defensive header looking destined for the bottom corner, but it ended all square at the break.
2nd half we came to dominate more of the play with our defence pushing a higher line and Ows Gwynedd on for Mel McGuiness playing off the last man to close their clearances quickly. On the hour mark a slack clearance came out to the advancing Geraint Mitchell, who hit a first time 'Ronaldo -esque' unstoppable shot that clipped the under side of the bar on its way in to open the scoring. although Llanfair came back strongly and brought a good save from Kenny, we were in control of much of the play and force d several corners. One saw Mitch hit the bar ( two for him would have been an event), with the rebound knocked over from 6 yards; but the next corner saw Warren Gibbs rise high to power home a header to secure the game. Mike Eddy and JP made way for Iwan Jones and Sion Parry in the final 15 minutes, but the match was seen out with us in control.
This leaves us assured of 3rd place with an outside chance of 2nd depending on Holyhead's results. Despite the mid season euphoria this is a lot more than we expected in pre-season and bodes well for next time if we can keep the nucleus of this squad together.
Thanks to all the lads and managers for their efforts in making this an entertaining and enjoyable season and to all our loyal supporters who have been with them through the good and bad times.
See you all in August.
7-0 away win @ Gresford
11th April 2009
No end of season ease up here with an emphatic 7-0 win at Gresford and another excellent team showing. Same starting lineup and bench with us starting strongly, but as expected an early flurry of activity from the home side with little to show against our defence.
They are a physical side and there were tackles flying in and several off the ball niggles against our front men. , but we held firm and gave as good as we got. Two rapid corners saw the ball come out for John Peris to hit a volley that the keeper did well to tip over on ten minutes, but he was not so quick 5 minutes later as 1st Melv ran onto a Kev Roberts pass inside the defence for him to pick up 6 yard box ball to score, followed by Mike Eddy's quick feet to take him past 3 men and shoot under the keeper, then Daz's turn to score from a dropped corner; 3-0 up at half time.
We weathered a 10 minute fight back in the 2nd half, before a deep Mel cross cum shot took a deflection off a defender's head stopping it reaching Darren, o.g. claimed by Mel!. They lostone man to a 2nd yellow at this point, but our fifth came from Kev with controversy as he was punched in the face as he scored resulting in their No. 5 being red carded as well and Kev a yellow? Ows, Sion and Iwan came on for Darren, Kev and Rich and quickly made their mark with Sion turning and hitting an unstoppable shot for the 6th on 70 mins, then Iwan taking a long ball from Whitty, to beat his man and whip and a great cross for Ows to head home. A great all round display to take us into the final game at Llanfairpwll next Wednesday.
