takes the gloss off

Interesting email from an anonymous supporter via hotmail.

" I overheard two lads talking at the game on Saturday and thought I should drop you an email.

1st lad:  you missed a great time the other night, we tipped the paint and sh*t  over in that cabin over there and set light to it, went up like sh*t.

2nd lad: yeah I know my kid bruv's footie was cancelled the next day.

1st lad: yeah but it was a laff though.

2nd lad: didn't your uncle have a free night in the club for his 40th the other week and your nain plays bingo there?

1st lad: what you on about man it's just a bit of fun

2nd lad: it was goin to be the food bar and first aid room.

1st lad:  you're doin my head in mate it was well funny and you're just p*ssed coz you missed it.

I walked over to have a word and got f**k off old man you don't know sh*t.

I thought about this on Sunday and I guess he's right I don't know sh*t."

Thanks for the contact and nice to know that all our hard work at least brought a little bit of joy to these lads in their pursuit of a ‘laff' , shame for the rest of the community but then I don't know sh*t either I suppose.

Anyone with any information about this stupid, malicious act can get in touch with me anonymously, the club would really appreciate it as we now have to find another £2000 -£3000 to sort it out as it's a major part of our licence application.

4-2 win @ home to Flint

4-2 win @ home to Flint

A very good, hard earned opening day win against a strong fit Flint.

With suspensions and injuries our line up was:

Pearson, Williams,Mitchell, Gibbs, Austin, Gwynedd, Higham, Owen, Craven, Thomas, Lloyd - bench G. Jones, M. Jones, JP. Jones, Shannhan, Danny Glyn

Playing away from the club house on a soft pitch we started quickly, but with Flint lining up 3-5-2, we were outnumbered at times in the middle and they had the better of the first 20 minutes. New keeper Shaun Pearson started and was quickly into action to stifle some penetrating crosses. We were playing on the counter for the main as they pushed forward to a number of set piece corners and free kicks. Against the run of play really and from a cleared corner Rich Higham played in Darren Thomas whose first time ball was played inside the covering defender by Kev Lloyd for Darren to pick up and calmy beat the outcoming keeper to put as 1-0 up. A minute later and again from a cleared break the ball went wide to Darren who cut in and played it to Kev who held it up, turned his man to execute a superb chip shot over the keeper to go 2-0 up on 25 minutes. Again on the counter a wide ball left was played across the face of goal by Ows Gwynedd but the connection in the 6 yard box by Darren flew over the bar, but on 39 minutes yet another set piece cleared out right gave Darren the opportunity to beat the two defenders turn the second to rifle home past the keeper at the near post 3-0 at half time - 4 chances and 3 goals, but by no means all over or all one way.

2nd half they inevitably pushed another player up and got a quick reward on 49 minutes with a poorly defended wide left cross and their striker nipping in at the near post to steer it home. It was a siege for a lot of the half and we defended resolutely if at times riskily. Danny Glyn came on up front to bear the brunt of their defence, with Lee Craven making way, Ger Jones came on for Richie Owen enabling Chris Williams to push into the middle. Their busy midfield over ran us at times and thire wide balls were crossed in to Beck and Dawson who were a real handful. On 85 minutes their 2nd came from a left wing ball across the face of the goal which was scrambled in despite the linesman flagging it out of play. Backs to the wall we thought but our work rate paid off and yet another counter saw Danny Glyn played in wide left to beat his man and slide a pin point pass for Kev Lloyd to score his 2nd from close range, with the game finishing 4-2 against a very strong Flint side who will not drop many points and be in the mix at the end.

All in all a great result for our new management, their had obviously done their homework and got the tactics right - hit them wide on the break at pace - and a new resilience in our play throughout the team, defenders view was this was their hardest game for a long while at the back.

Good to watch and better to win, with Llanfair on Tuesday who went down to new boys Llangollen 4-1 and then Ruthin on Saturday who won the opening game 3-0 at Gresford.

Other results were 1-1 between Buckley and Llandudno (two title favourites), 1-1 Guilsfield and Bethesda, 2-1 reverse for Holyhead against Mold, Caernarfon beating Denbigh 3-1 and Penrhyncoch beating Lex 2-1

An away trip to Brymbo on 12th September in the Welsh Cup - not an easy draw!

Porthmadog 3 Llangefni 1

10th August 2009

Despite the rather flattering scoreline, I am sure our management took a lot more positives from this game than perhaps our opponents could have done.

A virtually new line up for Port with only a couple from last season, shows the big job Tommi has on his hands. We lined up minus the injured Kev Roberts, Marcus Orlik and Warren Gibbs with the format adjusted to cope. Vey little to choose between the teams for the first part of the game, a lot of midfield stuff but neither keeper troubled to any great extent. A bit of a defensive mix up allowing a cross to bounce between two defenders with it falling to the experienced Paul Roberts to show composure in lobbing the advancing keeper, to go one up. Within 5 minutes the dangerous Darren Thomas rode a foul turned his man only to be tugged back for a penalty which Kev Lloyd despatched to make it 1-1. A great through ball by Rich Higham gave Darren a half chance in a race with the keeper, but with his lob landing on top of the net. Just before the break, ex- Port player Ows Gwynedd tracking back, needlessly brought down Ceri James for a free kick on the edge of the box with Shannon showing why Tommi signed him by hitting an unstoppable screamer to go 2-1 at the turn.

2nd half and a couple of changes with Kev Lloyd coming off with a slight hamstring pull and Steve Kehoe also coming off as he will miss the first 3 games; but for the next half hour we took the game to them and created several opportunities without the clinical finishing required. Darren continued to look sharp and Danny Glyn making his first appearance in nearly 12 months gave some added strength up front and a blatant penalty for him was only given as a free kick out side the box - some five yards way.Our keeper was rarely in any action and an equaliser looked to be on the cards as we pressed on the ground at pace; but as the final whistle approached we left ourselves exposed and some hesitant defending let them nip in for a tap in to finish at 3-1.

A good final workout for the team against well matched opposition who showed their experience at the higher level, with stronger on the ball control and better finishing and Paul Roberts showing how to play the box with his back to goal.

The physical differences are what define the two leagues with a big, no nonense back 3 making life difficult for us when its in the air and emphasing that with these tactics we need to use our undoubted pace to get it down and behind them.

Another good shift from the ever improving Lee Craven who shows his touch and passing and is now bringing more resilience to his game. Chris Williams showng his versatility going forward, Rich and Ows their work rate and Ozzy back to fitness at the back. All in the management have imbued a great team ethos in the squad which will stand us well in the coming months.

Bring on Flint next week!
