100% goes in 1-1 home draw

100% goes in 1-1 home draw

The 1-1 home draw to Guilsfield brought to an end our 100% record this season and on the day the dropped 2 points may not be such a bad result.

Our line up was , Pearson, Mitchell, Jones G, Gibbs, Austin, Williams R, Kehoe, Higham, Owen, Gywnedd, Thomas with subs Jones M, Roberts DG, Williams C, Lloyd, Jones JP, Shannhan.

Kicking away from the club house, we were slow into our game and lacked the sparkle of previous games; playing fairly narrow with a steady build up. Chances were few for either side in the first half hour though a couple fell to Darren and Ows, but some wayward finishing let us down. They packed 5 in the middle and the game got congested, but after a series of free kicks  a foul on Ows Gwynedd resulted in a disputed penalty that Robbie Williams put away with ease. As half time drew near Ows Gwynedd had a great chance that hit the post and rebounded to safety -  1-0 at half time.

2nd half we again looked lethargic and the formation from available players appeared out of shape, but 1 or 2 chances fell to us and also a couple of miscued clearances and free kicks went their way but all were handled  by the respective keepers. Chris Williams came on for Rich Higham and Danny Glyn for Richie Owen, to inject some pace and penetration, with Danny winning a good header knock on to Darren who's first time lob cum chip bounced narrowly wide. We had the ball in the net from Ows but he was adjudged to have backed into the keeper and from the long clearance a needless foul out right produced an inswinging free kick that our keeper mis-punched for the ball to glance of the big centre half's head for the equaliser. With ten minutes to go we replaced Ger Jones with Mark Jones and both sides went looking for the winner. A series of left wing sorties from Chris Williams produced a scrambled box ball with Ows hitting the bar, but the game ran down to a 1-1 draw.

In perspective this was a game we expected to win and for a number of reasons we fell a bit short of our high standards. To take nothing away from Guislfield who were bouyed up from their 4-4 game with Denbigh and are certainly no slouches on the pitch with some good quality and pace which I am sure will secure thier place in the league next season. The playing surface was difficult after the heavy rain and the lack of a good opportunity to cut and roll it, although Brian made a valiant attempt up to kick off; this is no excuse though as both teams had to cope with it, but it is something we will be resolving before the Mold game.

Fortunately some other results went our way leaving us top, albeit on goal difference from Penrhyncoch who beat Gresford.

Lee Dixon has been voted Manager of the Month for August following the five straight wins under his guidance

Darren Thomas has been voted Player of the Month - top scorer in the league and the only player ever to have been awarded Man of the Match in every game (5) during the month.

Very well done aand congratulations from the directors, committee and all supporters, great recognition for a new manager on the Island.

Lee was quick to point out that these awards are for the club and as manager he is reliant on the assistance of Ian Hughes, Mike Innes and Tony McGuire; he also said the Darren's great player achievement is a by product of the whole team support and the tremendous work ethic put in by everyone.
