3 points keep us ahead of the pack
25th October 2009

A comfortable 3-0 home win against bottom side Gresford keeps us on top of the league.
Line up Pearson, Jones G, Mitchell, Gibbs, Austin, Williams R, Williams C, Gwynedd, Kehoe,Thomas, Roberts DG subs: Lloyd, Roberts, K, Craven, Jones M, Shannahan.
On a wet, windy day and a soft ground we kicked away from the club house and into the wind. As expected most of the pressure came from us as we pushed and probed at their packed defence and middle. Difficult conditions for good football, but we got it down and wide with Darren Thomas and Chris Williams casusing danger and Danny Glyn carrying the physical challenge. Good work between Kehoe and Robbie Williams sent Yws Gwynedd wide right and a sharp low ball across the face of the goal presented Darren Thomas with an easy chance to open the scoring. With our defence rarely troubled, the full backs pushed on and in turn Chris piled on the pressure left clipping the bar with a dipping shot and Darren forced good saves and a couple of corners. It was another wide right break with Darren this time providing the cross for Ywain Gwynedd to side step the keeper and score the second. Despite a couple of brief counter attacks and a host of chances for us, the score remained 2-0 at the break.
2nd half was much of the same we pushed on and created pressure against a resolute defence. Lee Craven, making a return from his lengthy injury, coming on for Robbie Williams, Kev Lloyd for Darren Thomas, and shortly after Kev Roberts for Yws Gwynedd. With the wind gusting we kept it low and wide, Kev Lloyd out on the right turned his defender and layed a pass into the penalty area for Danny Glyn to score the 3rd and within 5 minutes Danny returned the compliment only for Lloyd to see his shot hit the post. A mazy run from Kev Roberts from a good through ball by Craven put him one on one with the keeper, beating him but hitting the post from a tight angle. Two screamers from Kev Lloyd tested the keeper and a few left wing crosses went begging, Danny Glyn missing a couple of chances, to leave the final score 3-0.
A one sided contest that could have seen us score more, but a satisfying clean sheet, a good team performance that never raised the roof and a well deserved 3 points to stay top.
12 games in and top of the table, a good position to be in and congratulations to the management and squad, looking back to early June who would have thought it. We are well placed on and off the field, with a strong squad (some to come back from injury) and a great dressing room, as we look forward to going 'on the road' to our main rivals over the coming weeks.

Popular player John Peris Jones has moved on to Caernarfon Town in a bid to get a regular game. One of the most likeable lads in the team, he will of course be missed, but the managers, coaches and all at the club wish him well and thank him for his efforts during his time with the club. He will be joining up with old team mates Dylan Owen, Caerwyn Roberts, John Rowley and of course manager Derek Roberts
4-1 win on the road
18th October 2009

A 1st visit to mid Wales Berriew and a satisfying 4-1 win although not as straight forward as it sounds.
With injuries and absentees decimating the squad, we arrived to a warm welcome from our hosts. Starting lineup was Pearson, JonesG, Mitchell, Gibbs,Austin, Williams C, Williams R, Kehoe, Roberts K, Thomas, Roberts DG subs: Gwynedd, Lloyd, Higham, Craven.
A fine day on a flat, dry if a little uneven surface, we started slowly and were mentally 'still on the bus' when on 5 minutes a 50/50 challenge gave them a free kick, well struck into the box and met by a big defender to head home and put us on the back foot. We pressed ahead and found our rythym gradually, getting wide on both flanks, but some niggling tackles and unwarranted yellow cards, with odd decisions going both ways. One to us wide right gave Chris a chance to flight in a trademark left foot cross and Warren Gibbs unmarked had an easy header for the equaliser. They were dangerous on the counter particularly their number 9 wide right who caused problems all game. A ball from Austin was headed back by a defender with Darren picking it up and scoring oddly only to be ruled off side off the defender? It was a brief respite as another set piece was scrambled about with Austin knocking it home from close in and this did look offside to be honest. We piled on the pressure and another deep run from Chris to the bye line saw a perfect cross for Steve Kehoe to head home and despite a final flurry towards half time from both sides it remained 3-1 at the break.
2nd half Berriew came out and made a game of it forcing corners which were dangerous and playing wide right to get attacks going and they could have got a second with a bit more composure. Rich Higham came on for the tiring Kev Roberts to anchor the defensive roll in midfield which steadied the ship. Gerallt was replaced with Ywain Gwynedd who added pace to the right releasing Darren into the middle and finally on 75 minutes Kev Lloyd made a welcome return after his injury up front in place of Mitchell. Danny Glyn had led the line well all game with his physical presence unsettling them and his persistence tying them up, although he had a couple of half chances, it was his set up to Kev Lloyd that saw him hit the fourth from 25 yards to then enable us to wind the game down at 4-1.
An entertaining game with the hosts not lying down and a place where points will be dropped by teams.
As a personal comment, what a nice place to come to and what a great job they have done to get to this league and the ongoing efforts to build for the future. Best half time cake since Gresford's scones and a really warm welcome, great local pub with decent beer, a committee and manager with a realstic view of footballing life and a sense of humour - just read the program; thanks from all at Llangefni for a good day out.
