3-0 win at home to Lex

Despite a lot of rain and being unable to get on the pitch to maintain it and cut the grass, the game went ahead on a wet, heavy surface. Starting lineup: Pearson, Williams C, Kehoe, Gibbs, Austin, Thomas, Gwynedd, Williams R, Roberts K, Higham, Mitchell, subs: Gowans, Orlik, Lloyd, Craven, Roberts DG. we kicked up towards the club house first half.

As expected we put Lex under a lot of pressure with little in return threatening our defence except for a strange yellow card for ball to hand for Steve Kehoe Chances came quickly with Darren rounding the keeper, slipping, retrieving the ball only to see it hacked away off the line. Austin met a near post corner but saw his header palmed round the post. A deep cross to Ywain Gwynedd was headed against the foot of the post and a corner fell to Warren Gibbs but bobbled and was cleared. Other half chances came and went with the break coming at 0-0.

2nd half was much the same early on and on 50 minutes Kehoe's dipping shot was palmed onto the bar and bounced down to Gwynedd who's reverse chip to the back post was headed home by Darren Thomas. 5 minutes later Darren Thomas was brought down for a penalty that Robbie Williams calmy put away. Kev Lloyd came on for Rich Higham and Darren Gowans for Kev Roberts; Gowans was quickly involved to put the ball in the net, but adjudged off side. a bad tackle and retaliation on Thomas led to a rash of bookings and a quick substitution by Lex, followed by a dismissal for verbal abuse. Gowans then took a ball wide left, rounded his defender and crossed to the back post for Ywain Gwynedd to volley home and put us 3-0 up, he then made way for Marcus Orlik coming back from injury. Good chances fell to Kev Lloyd, Orlik, Thomas and Gowans, but all were saved or went wide. A brief flurry saw Lex beat Pearson, but only after a foul which cancelled it out. Final score ended 3-0 and deservedly so for some creative football and many chances on a difficult surface. Another clean sheet and big games coming up - Flint next week and a local derby with Holyhead on 28th.

2-0 on the road

6th December 2009

A very good 2-0 win away at tough Guilsfield, who got a draw at our place earlier in the season. Al ong trip and short warm up saw us slow out of the blocks and showing signs of nearly a month out of competitive action. Starting line up: Pearson, Jones G, Austin, Gibbs, Kehoe, Higham, Wlliams C, Williams R, Gwynedd, Thomas, Roberts DG - bench Craven, Lloyd, Mitchell, Roberts K, Gowans,

The pitch was OK if a little uneven, but it rained heavily for most of the game. We gradually built up some momentum against a fairly young side short of a few regulars and chances fell to Darren Thomas to test the keeper from range 3 or 4 times, a good chance from a lose corner that Austin lashed wide and a similar strike from Higham.. They played  on the counter as expected but rarely brought Pearson into action and did not cause too much concern at the back. The half ran down with a series of yellow cards for some robust challenges with little allowance for the conditions. We turned round with Mitchell replacing Gerallt Jones and with more prupose played a flowing, passing game with their keeper called to make some interceptions, but it was another set piece corner that saw Warren Gibbs rise in the middle to head home the opener. On the hour Kev Lloyd replaced the limping Danny Glyn and his first action saw a typical charge down of a back pass with the keeper's hurried clearance rebounding off Kev and into the empty net, and at 2-0 we looked comfortable. Chances came to Lloyd, Thomas and Robbie Williams. Lee Craven came on for the hard working Ywain Gwynedd and got a yellow card for his first challenge (could easily have been red), but whilst we continued to press, they kept going on the break with their young number 9 - Ross Frame, showing good control and touches, but running out of options. A poor clearance fell wide left and a looping ball came back of our post to save the last few minutes anxiety it would have created.

After so long off, this was a good result and keeps us in 2nd with a game in hand on Flint who along with Llandudno and Penrhycoch also won on the road.

Thanks to all at Guilsfield where we always get a warm welcome and after match hospitality, plus they always give us a good game.

Licence News Update

3rd December 2009

A quick update to keep everyone informed of the progress on our Domestic Licence application.

We had an inspection and meeting today with Andrew Howard and David Miller from the FAW. It was informative and productive and we now are fully aware of the criteria we already meet, the things we need to do to meet the remainder of the needs, the timescales and the expected costs involved. We are lot further forward than we thought and the objectives are achievable with a little effort from all involved. We have the funding pretty much in place, although hopefully the additional grants we have applied for will make the job a lot easier. We have all the required personnel identified and their qualification processes all in hand. There will always be outside influences that we need to take into account, but we are all very optimistic for the future and we have some longer term plans in progress to then take the club to the next level.

If anyone wants more in depth information please drop me an email to the usual address.

Russ Austin
